Warning: MAJOR SPOILERS for Avengers: Endgame are ahead!

As the final chapter of the Infinity Saga, Avengers: Endgame both marked the end of an era and set the stage for the next iteration of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Steve Rogers, a.k.a. Captain America, fell into the former category, as after Thanos and his forces had been defeated, the Star-Spangled Avenger decided to leave his superhero life behind and go back to the past to be with Peggy Carter.

Because Steve Rogers is still alive in the present day, albeit now over a century old, it seemed like there was still the possibility for Chris Evans to play the character again. However, according to directors Joe and Anthony Russo, Avengers: Endgame did indeed mark Evans last appearance as Steve. As Joe Russo put it:

No, I think Chris Chris is a very emotional person. I think maybe its evident if you follow him on Twitter, because he does put his heart into what he says. But I feel like he has to close the door on things and emotionally move onto the next thing.

To be fair, its not as if Chris Evans didnt invest a lot of time into playing Captain America. He was cast as the patriotic superhero in early 2010 and he appeared in a Marvel movie every year from 2011 to 2019. Thats nine movies total, just one shy of Robert Downey Jr.s MCU run. Thats a tremendous accomplishment! Throw in his time as The Human Torch in the Fantastic Four movies, and Evans has more than enough superhero material on his resume.

As far as endings go, Steve Rogers definitely struck one of the biggest emotional chords in Avengers: Endgame. After Tony Starks funeral, Steve ventured into the Quantum Realm to put the Infinity Stones back in their proper time periods, and from the perspective of Hulk, Falcon and Winter Soldier, he was only supposed to be gone for a few seconds. Instead, he decided to go to the 1940s after his task was complete and stay there, living a beautiful life with Peggy Carter.

But there was one more thing the elderly Steve Rogers needed to do: pass on the Captain America mantle. He chose Falcon, a.k.a. Sam Wilson, to carry the vibranium shield in his place, a plot thread that will almost certainly be explored in the upcoming Falcon and Winter Soldier series on Disney+.

Maybe Chris Evans might change his mind down the line and be willing to make a cameo appearance as Old Man Steve in an MCU project, but as the Russos said during their visit to the Happy Sad Confused podcast, for now, hes moving on to new endeavors. Fortunately, MCU fans got to watch his arc unfold across nearly a decade, and though we wont be seeing Steve Rogers again, his legacy will continue to be felt in the years to come.

In a new interview, Endgame directors Joe and Anthony Russo seemed to hint at how Chris Evans could return as Captain America. No surprise, his possible return has to do with a few Endgame Easter eggs connected to that final time heist Cap pulls off.

However, Chris Evans appears to have closed the book on his role as Captain America and moved onto to new things. After 10 years, Chris Evans has definitely given a lot of his time playing Captain America. Although the original plan for Shazam! was to have the eponymous protagonist face off against Black Adam, the clash is being saved for the future, as the villain/anti-hero also known as Teth-Adam will first debut in his own movie. Instead, Shazam! used Mark Strongs Doctor Thaddeus Sivana as its main antagonist, and he definitely showed off his intimidation chops.

This was best demonstrated when Sivana killed everyone inside of a boardroom, including his own brother and father, using the Seven Deadly Sins. As it turns out though, that wasnt originally the scene that showed just how frightening Sivana could be. I recently spoke with Michel Aller, the editor of Shazam! and frequent collaborator with director David F. Sandberg, and she informed me that during principal photography, Sivanas display of incredible power happened in a different location. Speaking about the boardroom scene, she said:

It was a later addition. Originally the way Sivana confronts his family was completely different. It was at a Christmas party in his mansion. And so the whole idea of him confronting his family was re-conceived. So that was part of the additional photography.

The Christmas season can be a dramatic time among certain families, but killing your relatives and all the attendees of a holiday party is an entirely different beast. Something like that feels more appropriate during the Airing of Grievances in a Festivus celebration. But as Michel Aller explained to me, during Shazam!s reshoots phase, it was decided to change things up, which is how the boardroom slaughter came to be.

In case you need a refresher, after Thaddeus Sivana, against the wizard Shazams protests, stole the Eye of Sin from the Rock of Eternity and became the new vessel for the Seven Deadly Sins, he traveled to Sivana Industries to confront his father and brother. Both of them had been emotionally abusive towards Thaddeus growing up, with his brother, Sid, blaming him for the accident that paralyzed their father. Now that he had the power to exact revenge, Thaddeus tossed Sid out the window and had the Seven Deadly Sins murder Mr. Sivana and everyone else in the room.

For those curious to see how this massacre was originally supposed to play out at the Christmas party, Michel Aller states that theres a good chance this will be one of the deleted scenes included on the Shazam! home media release, although obviously the visual effects effects wont be complete. In her words:

Yeah, I mean, Ive submitted it and I believe that theyll include that for sure.

Doctor Sivana didnt get to enjoy his partnership with the Seven Deadly Sins for very long in Shazam!. Thanks to the Worlds Mightiest Mortal and his adoptive siblings, who were able to become superheroes thanks to Billy Batson sharing his power, the Sins were contained back in the Eye of Eternity and redeposited to their prison in the Rock of Eternity, which is now officially the Shazam familys lair.

However, dont think this is the last weve seen of Sivana in the DC Extended Universe. In the Shazam! mid-credits scene, he was shown obsessively scrawling ancient runes on the walls of his prison cell, desperately trying to go back to Rock of Eternity to reclaim his lost power. However, he was then approached by Mr. Mind, who promised him that there are other ways to obtain power, and by working together, the two of them will be able to conquer the Seven Realms. In other words, Sivanas days of slaughtering innocents probably arent done yet.

But similar to the past DC movies, it also went through its hurdles and faced criticism when it entered reshoots. Nonetheless, the additional photography didn't seem to have affected or changed the film's plot but it did change the setting of an important scene for Dr. Sivana (Mark Strong).

Sometimes we forget that behind every on-screen superhero there is a stunt performer. Those stunt doubles must fit seamlessly between action sequences as the counterpart of a famed actor. There's chatter that Avengers 4 might mark Chris Evans' last outing as Captain America. That would suggest it's also the last time for his long-time stunt double Sam Hargrave to wield the shield. Following Avengers 4's wrap, Hargrave is already on to a new endeavor -- directing an upcoming Netflix film starring another Hollywood Chris from the MCU, Chris Hemsworth .

Chris Hemsworth recently took to Twitter to share a first look at the film, called Dhaka. Take a look:

Chris Hemsworth will star in Netflix's Dhaka for Sam Hargrave's directorial debut. The Russo Brothers are also on board with writing and producing credits. They all worked together on Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers 4, so the project allows them to collaborate again, just in different roles. Dhaka is an action-packed drama about a worn-out mercenary named Rake (Hemsworth) hired to save the son of a businessman who has been kidnapped in the titular city in Bangladesh.

Chris Hemsworth and Sam Hargrave just celebrated wrapping reshoots on Avengers 4 last month, and look at them go! The pair began filming Dhaka in India this month, and already seem proud of their progress. Considering a stunt coordinator is helming the movie, one would expect Dhaka to be full of action choreography -- and per Hemsworth's first comments about the flick, it sure will be.

The set pictures show Chris Hemsworth posing with Sam Hargrave (with some sunburns starting to show), holding up some artillery and filming a sequence inside a car. Dhaka has the cast and crew shooting in India and Indonesia until March 2019.

Chris Hemsworth has had a hugely successful 2018 so far, with badass roles in Infinity War, Bad Times at the El Royale, and 12 Strong. In 2019, after Avengers 4, audiences will get to see him team-up with another member of the MCU when his Men in Black spinoff comes out. Tessa Thompson shared the screen with Chris Hemsworth as Valkyrie in Thor: Ragnarok and looks to be playing Agent M to his Agent H in the upcoming MIB film. Hemsworth also recently teased some set images for this other exciting movie as well.

Dhaka will mark Chris Hemsworth's first collaboration with Netflix, as the streaming service continues to roll out more projects with high-profile names. Netflix has started a working relationship with movie theaters this year, to give some of their films a chance at the box office before hitting homes. Before the end of the year, Netflix will premiere Roma, Bird Box and The Ballad of Buster Scruggs in theaters. A release date for Dhaka hasn't been released yet. Depending on how filming goes, Dhaka looks like a good contender for the big screen for Netflix.
