New Solo: A Star Wars Story Spot Is Exciting And Hilarious
We're just a little over a month from the release of Solo: A Star Wars Story and a new extended TV spot shows off both the action and the humor that Han Solo has in store for us. While the title of the clip is "crew" we only get brief glimpses of the supporting characters in the new movie, with a focus on exploding trains and some great banter between Han and Chewbacca. Check it out.
The ad spot opens with a different part of the train heist that we saw in the last trailer. It includes a voiceover of Han counting down before everything explodes and we see a ship, we assume containing our heroes, racing away in the nick of time. The next scene we get appears to be the first time that Han Solo and Chewbacca actually talk, as Han is asking the Wookie's name. It's one of the most important meetings in Star Wars history, and we'll finally get to see it on the big screen when Solo: A Star Wars Story arrives next month.
There's also a large focus on gambling in the spot, as we see money moving around a table a lot and Han apparently playing poker against somebody. One of the funniest moments involves Han showing his cards to Chewbacca, and the Wookie being obviously unimpressed. Either Chewie just has the worst possible poker face, or the pair may be trying to scam whoever Han is playing by making him think the cards are bad when they're not. Since the cards are clearly in Aurebesh, the Star Wars language, it's difficult to tell at a glance whether they're good or not.
Han and Chewbacca have always interacted like an old married couple and it seems like that started very early. We see Han chiding Chewie for always being afraid everything is a bad idea. For what it's worth, as it regards Han Solo, he's right a lot of the time.
I'll be honest, when I saw the first trailer for Solo: A Star Wars Story I was far from sold, and while I'm still not completely convinced this movie is going to work, the more I see of it, the more comfortable I'm getting with it. The Han and Chewbacca interaction feels right, even if other parts of it seem to still be trying to find the right footing.
We'll learn once and for all if Solo: A Star Wars Story is, in fact, the Star Wars movie we're looking for when it debuts May 25.
For starters, not too much is known about the plot or the human element of the film. The last thing that anyone seeing a Godzilla movie cares about are the humans, but someone needs to explain stuff in between monster fights.
